Sport & Exercise Injuries

Management of a range of injuries and illness related to sports and exercise. Tom will endeavour to make time for acute sporting injuries requiring immediate attention. Pain relief, splinting, bracing and organisation of medical imaging can be organised after a sporting injury.

Tendinopathy

Tom offers management of chronic and acute tendon issues. Tendon pain can be debilitating and often chronic. Various medical management options can be employed to assist in recovery. These include load management direction, biomechanic assessment and correction, medication, shockwave therapy and injectable options. A combination of treatments is often required to treat tendinopathy or tendon tears. Common areas include the Achilles tendon, patella tendon, rotator cuff and tendons of the elbow.

Osteoarthritis

Tom offers non-operative management of osteoarthritis. This can include direction on exercise-based management, injectable options such as hyaluronic acid, platelet rich plasma and cortisone, as well as diet, medications and bracing options.

Cortisone Injections

Tom can perform ultrasound guided cortisone injections.

Cortisone is a potent anti-inflammatory and is useful in treating problems related to excessive inflammation. Using ultrasound allows the practioner to deliver the drug to the desired region in a safe manner.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP Injections)

Platelet-rich-plasma is a blood product, drawn from your body, which has a high concentration of platelets that release various growth factors. The growth factors released from the platelets are thought to help with tissue healing and longer term anti-inflammatory role.

PRP can be used for adjunct management of degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis) as well as chronic and acute tendon conditions.
